Violinist Julia Kuhn is praised by the international press as a “well-versed and highly skilled musician” who “mesmerizes and enchants her audience with her beautiful and virtuosic playing”. She holds the principal second violin post with the acclaimed Academy of Ancient Music (AAM), is regular second violin section leader for The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE) and was invited to join John Eliot Gardiner’s Constellation Orchestra as principal second violin from 2027. As concertmaster she has played for The English Concert, the Irish Baroque Orchestra, The Mozartists, and the Orquestra Barroca Casa da Música Porto, as well as for AAM and OAE. Kuhn has appeared as a soloist with, among others, The Hanover Band and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. She is guest principal second violinist for Camerata Salzburg. 
An avid chamber musician, Kuhn has performed with, among others, Nicholas McGegan, Simon Standage, Rachel Podger, and Rodolfo Richter. She formed Trio Follia in 2024, focusing on baroque violin sonata. The piano trio Oltmanns - Kuhn - Comberti (Caroline Oltmanns, piano, Sebastian Comberti, cello) will tour Beethoven piano trios in Europe in 2027. Kuhn is first violinist with The Hanover Band String Quartet. 

Kuhn is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM), and a recipient of the Youth Cultural Prize of her German hometown Kaufbeuren, South Bavaria, where she is also the artistic director of the Early Music in St Blasius summer concert series. 
Kuhn enjoys performing a vast and diverse repertoire of music. Her programs often cross different art genres and she seeks to show similarities between different musical styles and periods. She researches music of underrepresented composers of the 20th century. South African composer James Wilding dedicated the microtonal solo sonata “Without” to her. 
Kuhn specializes in mentoring gifted young violinists and music college students, following a holistic and individualized teaching approach. She teaches both in person and online. Her students regularly hightly succeed in competitions, auditions, and exams.  Kuhn has taught masterclasses and workshops on both modern and baroque violin in Europe, Asia, the USA, and South America, as well as coaching students at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She is a regular tutor for the Kaufbeuren Masterclasses for gifted young musicians, as well as the newly formed yearly Meistertage Lindau in collaboration with Caroline Oltmanns. She was adjudicator for the 2022 Mica Comberti Bach Prize competition at the Royal Academy of Music, London, and was a panel member for both the 2025 Help Musicians Postgraduate Awards auditions, and the 2023 OAE Rising Star auditions. Kuhn holds a BA with distinction in violin performance from the University Mozarteum Salzburg (Prof. Harald Herzl) as well as an MA with distinction in baroque violin from the Royal Academy of Music (Simon Standage), and spent a year studying at Stony Brook University, USA, (Philip Setzer (Emerson String Quartet) and Hagai Shaham), where she was also a teaching assistant.
